About Gates Planetarium
In 2003, the Denver Museum of Nature & Science launched the new, 125-seat Gates Planetarium, one of the most technologically advanced immersive digital theaters of its kind in the world. The old star ball is gone, replaced by a suite of 11 digital projectors orchestrated by a $1.5 million computer system, all working in harmony to produce bright, vibrant images. Instead of being horizontal, the 56-foot planetarium dome is tilted at a 25-degree angle, allowing visitors to sit upright in stadium seats and be surrounded by the action on all sides. Gates Planetarium also boasts a 20-channel, three-dimensional spatial sound system that permeates the senses. And because each planetarium show is based on real science from leading research institutions and organizations like NASA, your seat in the Planetarium becomes a launch pad to new insights about the amazing universe.
