Paul Martin Sites Relocation Project

Paul Sidney Martin (1898–1974) spent most of his career at The Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. This ongoing project aims to relocate, re-map, and re-record critically important but poorly recorded sites in Arizona excavated by Paul S. Martin between 1957 and 1972.

Dr. Nash conducts fieldwork to explore these sites which are then registered with the state of Arizona. The data are forwarded to The Field Museum and included in Dr. Nash’s scholarly biography of Paul S. Martin. Many of these sites are critical to the understanding of the prehistoric Southwest and the history of North American archaeology. This project currently receives funding from the Southwest Foundation.
