This program will assemble calibrated global maps of the surface albedo of Mars from Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) images, corrected for the effects of atmospheric aerosols. These maps will then be utilized to characterize the Martian surface albedo over the course of the Mars Global Surveyor primary and extended mapping missions (1998 to late 2006).
The results of these analyses will be used to infer details of regional sediment transport. When compared to the Viking observations (from the late 1970s), this investigation will provide a multi-decade view of the behavior of the Martian surface over time.
