Volunteer Enrichment Committee

Who We Are
The Volunteer Enrichment Committee (VEC) is a team of dedicated volunteers who work cooperatively with staff to plan and implement continuing education and enrichment opportunities for all Denver Museum of Nature & Science volunteers.

What We Do
The committee plans two to five events per month that are open to all DMNS volunteers. Most VEC events have limited space and require volunteers to sign up in advance. Information about upcoming events and sign-up sheets can be found in the Staff and Volunteer Lounge.

How You Can Get Involved
We are always looking for great event ideas! If you have any suggestions, or would like to communicate with the committee, drop us a note in our "Suggestions" box in the Staff and Volunteer Lounge. We look forward to seeing you at our next event.

Upcoming Events

For more information or to sign up for any of these events, please see the VEC bulletin board in the Staff and Volunteer Lounge.

Tuesday, August 12, 2008
12:00PM – 1:00PM
Spend an hour with Steve Lee, PhD, curator of space science. Join Steve in an informal setting to learn about current Museum research and future plans in the Space Science Department.

Colorado Shambhala Centers Lecture

Wednesday, August 13, 2008
1:00PM - 3:00PM
Join the VEC for a presentation about the physical, programmatic offering, and community activities of the Denver, Boulder, and Shambhala Mountain Centers. This is not a lecture on Buddhism as much as a lecture on the centers themselves. The last half hour will be devoted to a discussion on meditation techniques. Participation in meditation is completely voluntary.

Mt. Evans Observatory Field Trip

Monday, August 18, 2008
5:15PM - 10:00PM
The VEC has put together a special tour of the Mt. Evans Observatory, hosted by Dr. Robert Stencel from Department of Astronomy at the University of Denver. Dr. Stencel and a few of his graduate students will offer tours of the observatory and, weather permitting, views of the night sky through a telescope.

Sign up for all VEC events are in the Staff and Volunteer Lounge.
